Picnic Table Makeover with DecoArt
This post sponsored by DecoArt, however all opinions are my own.
Ever since we moved from our townhouse with a tiny little patio for a backyard to our current home I have dreamed of a having a picnic table in our yard. I could just picture Summer evenings spent eating watermelon and popsicles with all my babies gathered around it.
A couple weeks ago I found a steal of a deal on the perfect picnic table with benches already attached. I found it at Home Depot for under $100 and they even delivered it already assembled for FREE! I had a Garden Party coming up so I just slapped a coat of blue spray paint on the top and benches and had to leave it at that for a little while.
Everyday that I looked at it half finished like this, I just knew that my little table had a greater calling. She could be so beautiful and after looking around the DecoArt site for a bit I thought she would just look amazing with a faux weathered finish using their Chalky Finish paint.
I painted the entire table with a coat of Chalky Finish paint in Relic. I love this paint because a little bit goes such a long way and it dries so quickly that it makes any project just fly by.
Then I lightly dipped a 3 inch paint brush in Chalky Finish Paint in Serene and dabbed it on a paper plate so that the color would barely transfer to the table. I applyed light brush strokes over the entire table till I achieved the desired weathered look.
Once I finished applying the weathered finish I let it dry and then applied 2 coats of the DuraClear matte varnish. When I thought about using varnish I imagined a thick, goopy, sticky substance that would be a huge pain to work with. I was so surprised at how easy this varnish was to use! It's water based so it's more liquid and a breeze to apply and clean up.
I am so in love with how the lighter color picks up all the imperfections of the wood. There is such beauty in them.
I have to admit that I was very intimidated by this project. I worried that I would totally mess up the weathering technique, but it was so much fun and a total breeze. I am having friends over on Saturday and I can not wait to enjoy some great laughs and memories around my perfect little picnic table.
