Kennedy turned 3 last week and she has been asking for month's for a Mermaid Birthday Party.  She is just obsessed with all thing The Little Mermaid and she just loves to visit Ariel at Disneyland every time we go.  I even promised her that Ariel would pay a visit and I'll tell you in a bit how I pulled that one off at the last minute.  The look on her face when she say her Mermaid Birthday Party all set up was just so priceless.  She was beside herself with joy and that makes these project so worth the time and money and sleepless nights.  Much like Kennedy's Unicorn Party, the  Ghostbuster Party I threw for Dylan and this Plaid Themed Brunch, these set ups have become one of my favorite things about being a parent.

Mermaid Birthday Party

This was my favorite theme to plan for because not only do I love mermaids, but I was able to buy almost everything we needed.  Usually I am up till the wee hours of the morning for weeks making decor, but since mermaids are such a big trend for Summer I found so much darling decor at Hobby Lobby.  I've linked almost everything you will need to throw your own little mermaid a fabulous party of her very own at the end of this post.

Welcome sign

I did make a few things like the Mermaid Sign I posted a couple weeks ago and some really cute paper lantern jelly fish which I'll show you how to whip up next week.  I will apologize now for the insane amount of photos in this post, but there were so many cute details that I couldn't narrow it down to just a handful.

These paper lantern jelly fish were so much easier than I thought they would be to create.  They maybe took me 5 minutes each.  I'll be sharing a step by step tutorial on these next week.

I took a couple photos of Kennie in her costume in the garage earlier in the week.  I just used a big roll of white paper that I had laying around as the backdrop.  I love adding little personal touches like photos to parties!

I found this wood palette sign already made and just begging for some vinyl love.  All the details on where to get supplies and how to make this sign can be found HERE.

I put some sour belts on skewers to make some bright and vibrant coral that was edible.  The kids just loved these!

Almost all the decor was found at Hobby Lobby.  I seriously lucked out in finding pieces that matched our color palette perfectly.

I love how the cake turned out!  My girlfriend and I stayed up late the night before decorating it with swiss meringue buttercream, graham cracker sand and fondant details.  It even tasted better than it looked.

These little dinglehopper cake pops were almost the death of me!  I learned the hard way that you should not use candy melts for dipping... only molding.  The chocolate sets up so fast that they were just a big clumpy mess that ended up cracking when they dried.  Lennie saved the day and went out to get me almond bark so I could salvage them the morning of the party.  I added candy pearls, sugar sand and chocolate shells to finish them off on a bed of graham cracker sand.

Aren't these little Nilla Wafer clam bites the cutest?! I did a step by step tutorial on how to assemble these little guys HERE.

I worked with Pixel Perfection Party to create all the printables for the party.  Sometimes I make my own, but boy is it easier and quicker to leave it to the pros.  They were a dream to work with and I received so many compliments on all the details.  Visit their shop on Etsy to see all their great work!

Mermaid Birthday Party

My sweet little mermaid!  I can't believe she is three!!!  The time has flown by so quickly and she is just so smart and sassy and funny.  She never stops talking, loves wrestling with her brothers and is the most stubborn child I have ever met.  I usually lose any battle of will the occurs, a trait that will serve her well in the future I am certain.

About that promise of having Ariel attend the mermaid birthday party...I contacted 3 party companies and no one called me back so we were left scrambling at the last minute.  My amazing friend Lucy had this spectacular dress on hand from high school and I ordered a red wig online just in case I could talk her into dressing up for me.  The day before the party Lucy offered to call one of the young women from her ward at church and asked if she would be willing to play dress up for the party.  Let me tell you, she ended up being one of the most beautiful Ariels we have seen!  She was so good with the kids and Kennedy was speechless when she showed up.  I am so glad we were able to pull off the big surprise with the help of a friend.  This mermaid birthday party will for sure be a one we will always remember and might be impossible to top.
