Chalk Paint Dining Table Makeover
It's no secret that I love chalk paint! Doesn't matter what it is. If I can get it to stay still long enough, you can bet I will try to paint it. I've done a headboard, 2 dressers, 2 night stands, an end table, picture frames and today I'm sharing how I turned an old, scratched, tired dining room table and chair set that I got off Facebook for $100 into a beautiful statement piece that is the focal point of our family room.
Now this is what I was working with. Really it was a total steal! The high top table has a hidden leaf in the middle that makes it into a large square and it came with 8 chairs! We only use 6 around it when the leaf is put away and we use the other 2 at the kitchen counter for the boys to eat at most meals.
And here is the finished product after a couple of lovely hours; just me, some chalk paint and a paint brush.
I partnered with Deco Art who provided the paint for this project. I've made my own chalk paint and nothing really compares to Deco Art Chalky Finish paint. The coverage is amazing and the colors are so vibrant. A little bit really goes a long way. The red is called "Romance" and the light blue/grey is called "vintage.
Once I painted 2 really good coats I finished with a quick coat of clear Crème Wax.
The best thing about using Chalky Finish paint from Deco Art instead of spray paint, besides not having to sand or prime, was that I could paint inside after all the little minions had gone to bed. Each night I would catch up on some reality T.V. and complete a couple coats of paint. I highly suggest investing in a canvas drop cloth for painting projects. I use mine all the time!
I created this gallery wall last year and selected the colors for the table to match. Our entire family room has a red, white and blue Americana color scheme and I really love it. I didn't want to select anything trendy like mint or mustard because I really wanted it to be timeless. I feel like I can update the look by adding an accent color when I feel the need for something fresh instead of changing everything all together.
I can't wait to show you the secretary desk I snagged at a thrift store for just $15! Any guesses about what color I decided to paint that???
