Our sweet girl turned 5 last month and between buying a house, relocating to another state, finishing the school year and a week long family trip to Disney World… we managed to throw together a birthday party for her. I’m exhausted just typing that sentence! This post is brought to you by the Target Dollar Spot, not sponsored mind you…it was just the only creative juice I could muster. I’m sharing 5 Party Planning Tips for making your party execution easy and painless. You can send thanks in the form of treats and Nordstrom gift cards.
1. LEAVE THE DECORATING TO THE PROS
I learned a long time ago that hand making party decor just wasn’t for me. Now that we have access to Amazon, Target and Etsy the stress of party planning is almost gone…almost. lol . One great thing about the Target Dollar Spot is that they release party decor that all coordinates. I found balloon words, banners, plates, napkins and paper balls that all had the same color scheme. It took all the brain work out of theme design which I had no cells left for. Buy it, don’t make it… pro party planning tips!
2. CALL ON YOUR TALENTED FRIENDS
Chances are, you have a couple friends who have excel in areas you may feel weak in. For me that is dessert creation. I tried to make sugar cookies for Kennedy’s 2nd birthday…never again! I happen to have 2 friends that are super talented in baking and food decorating so I enlisted their help. They happen to love doing that sort of thing so they were happy to do it.
3. TEENAGERS LOVE MONEY – PARTY PLANNING TIPS
This is a proven fact! Teenage girls also love entertaining little girls. Instead of trying to plan games and activities to keep the girls busy, I hired a couple girls from church to come do hair, makeup, nails and play games. I’ve never enjoyed a party more! I was able to take photos, visit with the other moms and just take it all in. Seriously never going back to being the party MC ever again. Take that party planning tip and go ENJOY your party!!
4. RESIST THE URGE TO BAKE OR COOK
Store bought snacks are ALWAYS an option! Just because you purchased the decor, hired out the entertainment and suckered your friends into making sweets does not obligate you to homemade snacks. I repeat…you are not obligated. Now that you have permission to go the store bought route, fill that insta cart app and click deliver. This will leave you time to hang decorations and get your set up exactly how you like it with plenty of time left over to snap some Instagram worthy photos of all your hard work. Party planning tips that make life easier!
5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO REUSE WHAT YOU HAVE
One of the best things I have done in all my years of throwing birthday parties was build a supply of generic party table decor. If you are going to spend money on something for your party, make sure it’s something white, clear or wood colored so you can reuse it anytime you throw a party in the future. I’ve accumulated enough glass jars, white platters and wood boxes to run a small decor rental business. Hobby Lobby (use a 40% off coupon) and Walmart are my favorite places to score affordable pieces. I also hang on to all my banners and misc. odds and ends to reuse if the theme allows. These jars are from my Easter decor, this drink container was from a blog event I planned and these little gold unicorns are from Kennedy’s party from last year.
Happy 5th Birthday to our favorite little Party Animal!!!
