Kennedy’s birthday party is this weekend and she is obsessed with everything Mermaid, so naturally we went with that theme for her party. Hobby Lobby had so many darling nautical wood signs, but I needed something that matched her party decor. I found a great rustic blank wood sign at Walmart and had the perfect color vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and whipped up this cute mermaid sign in about 20 minutes.
Here is a quick rundown of how I did it.
I was going to create my own design for the mermaid sign, but the Silhouette studio had this great file already to go!
I set up my paper size to match the wood sign I purchased then selected each word or word set to cut individually according to the corresponding color vinyl I needed to cut.
Once I had the vinyl cut, I weeded it and applied transfer tape. I used Mint, Coral Glitter and White vinyl.
Then I went to work applying each color. Using a squeegee helps to get the vinyl to stick to the uneven surface of the reclaimed wood.
I was extra careful when pulling back the transfer tape to make sure it stuck properly.
I applied the mint first because I wanted the white section to overlap just a bit.
Then last I applied the coral glitter section.
I love how the coral glitter makes this section of the sign pop.
Then your mermaid sign is all finished! This is a great beginner project fora anyone who might be intimidated by breaking out their cutting machine. Expressions Vinyl is where I always purchase my vinyl supplies because they have the best customer service, lowest prices and highest quality products. We just love working with them any chance we get.
I can’t wait to show you how everything else turns out this weekend!
